These words of advice were uttered gravely to my Pakistani roommate by a mutual Punjabi friend. The translation is as follows: “My friend, do not mess with the whites in their own country!” My Punjabi friend is frequently called upon (indirectly) to work overtime by his bosses and is unable to refuse, as he works a demanding job with tight deadlines While his bosses are understanding (and forgiving) he still believes that the safest course is to avoid conflict with whites on their own turf.
When I was in 10th grade, a Sri Lankan friend of mine was immigrating to New Zealand from Dubai. I told him that he was indeed very lucky to to be moving to a white country and he agreed. Everybody in class thought that living in a white country would be so cool. I caught up with him a few years later while he was visiting Dubai on his summer break and asked him about life in a white country. He regarded my query with a mixed expression of disdain and pity and asked: “What’s a ‘white country’?” What a marvellously idiotic question, I thought to myself at the time, for wasn’t it obvious? The US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are white countries just as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar are all Arab countries; and likewise China, Taiwan, and Singapore are Chinese countries.
Immigrants are extremely conscious of the racial character of their adopted societies and for many it is a variable that directly affects their decision to immigrate. Is Canada a white country? Apparently everybody outside of Canada seems to think so, whereas Canadians themselves haven’t gotten that memo. It’s a natural human tendency to reduce a nation to its ethnic and linguistic components and people have been doing it for centuries. The ancient Greeks and Arabs were acutely aware of the ethnic and linguistic differences among the various peoples they encountered. The Greek philosopher Xenophanes described the Ethiopians as “snub nosed and black” and described the Thracians as having blue eyes and red hair; two groups of people both identified by racial characteristics. The Arabs were also conscious of the racial differences among the various nations they conquered. They cataloged in detail the various physical and cultural differences between the Persians, Indians, Romans, and Ethiopians. So why did my Sri Lankan friend hesitate to identify New Zealand as a white country when he had formerly done so? Chances are he was infected by political correctness during the course of this stay there.
Speaking of political correctness and cognitive dissonance, last Christmas a local man in Saskatoon filed a complaint protesting against public transport buses displaying the ‘Merry Christmas’ greeting. He claimed that the greeting made him feel excluded as an atheist and violated his human rights. Fortunately, good sense prevailed and City hall rejected his ludicrous complaint. Canada is a Christian nation and Christianity is a part of our great heritage. Our high trust culture and work ethic are products of Protestant Christianity. Perhaps our atheist friend should try peddling his diversity nonsense to Hindus in India during Ganesh Chaturthi. He might protest the commotion caused by devotees as they parade the Ganesh idol through the streets and to the shore where the idol is submerged amidst exuberant cheers. If he tried such a thing you can be sure that Hindu nationalists (Hindutvadis) would submerge him in the ocean. If he tried protesting the Eid Mubarak greeting in Saudi Arabia, the religious police would beat him senseless and then deport his infidel hide back to civilization. Yet in Canada we are so unsure of our heritage and so unwilling to stand our ground in its defence, that lunatics like the aforementioned individual are taken seriously.
Political correctness is a form of tyranny that goes well beyond polite self censorship, and in fact threatens the legitimacy of western culture. It is a corollary of Cultural Marxism which is essentially Marxism adjusted for culture, specifically western culture. Recently, a group of students protested against a professor who had the temerity to correct their grammar. If a society cannot even protect its language then it surely cannot protect its culture. Must our education standards suffer to appease a handful of petulant and infantile minority groups? For the sake of survival, society must learn to bifurcate between ethnic minority groups that assimilate and conform to protocol (East and South Asians) and those that refrain (they shall remain nameless). But not everybody swallows the PC kool-aid. Xenophobia seems to be alive and kicking in Saskatchewan. While I personally don’t care for xenophobia I can certainly sympathize with the frustration of people who resent their free speech being muzzled. I have heard racial epithets been uttered in office settings as well as casual settings. Cultural Marxists would use this as an excuse to continue tightening the screws on free speech but ironically PC seems to be positively correlated to increases in xenophobia; at least from personal experience.
Just as feminists incite women to behave recklessly and then use the inevitable casualties as fodder for their toxic cause, Cultural Marxists likewise create an environment which is fertile ground for xenophobia. Nationalism is like sex: it cannot be suppressed and it should not be overindulged. A society which penalizes its members for expressing healthy ethnic pride will surely see an increase in resentment towards minorities that will inevitably be blamed for unleashing Political Correctness. If society doesn’t implode in the near future, I’m certain it will reach a breaking point where liberal trends will be forcibly overthrown. But before we get there I’d like to share a few words of advice to the loony liberals and their cultural Marxist puppeteers:
Don’t mess with whites in their own countries.
